OTC Model 3718 MicroGas 5-gas analyzer

MicroGas brings breakthrough technology to
5-gas analysis and driveability troubleshooting

Not only has exhaust analysis become a requirement for fixing emission related failures, it has become an important link in driveability troubleshooting. In either environment, the problem was that ordinary gas analyzers were large, heavy and cumbersome, making road testing a problem. MicroGas provides and a whole lot more.

Extremely Portable:
  • This self-contained, hand-held unit can be controlled with either hand, and weighs in at only 3 lbs. Supported by a large display and user-friendly keypad.
  • The Portability of this unit lends itself perfectly to road testing, reducing the requirement for an expensive chassis dynamometer.
Saves Time:
  • "Instant On" feature takes approximately 30 seconds for initialization and warm-up. Couple this with a "zeroing" time of 40 seconds and a user can be analyzing emissions in just over a minute.
  • Calibration may be done at any time: no waiting for long warn-up periods.
Easily Upgradeable:
  • Software is modem upgradeable from the field for instant software updates, 24 hours a day; no cartridges to by.
  • This technology provides the platform that can be configured to meet requirements as vehicle systems and emission laws change.
Functionally Compatible:
  • Communicates to a PC with OTC GTi software to view live and recorded data in hihgly detailed graphics.
  • Printouts are available through a PC or OTC printers.
  • Works on 12V DC or 110/240V 50/60 Hz power sources.
User Friendly:
  • The software is menu-driven and user-friendly. Icons area available throughout the software for quick access to applicable functions.
  • Two numeric data display modes available, accompanied by either a bar graph or line graph.
  • MicroGas can record 20+ events with record times of 7 min,/event. Includes the ability to graph multiple events or gasses.
  • An average mass feature allows the user to take recorded data and convert it to grams per mile.
  • Vehicle Diagnostics allow the user to perform specific tests designed to diagnose vehicle systems.
User Serviceable:
  • Can be serviced in the field by the end user. The NOx cell, O2 cell, and pump are user replaceable, while the sample cell can be cleaned.
  • Eliminates the need to send the unit back to the factory for routine maintenance.
Cost Effective:
  • The "TurnKey" system is typically less expensive than compatible kits. Coupling this with the time saving opportunities and user serviceability produces a substantial savings overall.
Highly Accurate:
  • Meets or exceeds the following accuracy standards: BAR 97, BAR 90, BAR 84, EPA 207B (USA), P.T.B. (West Germany), S.I.M. (France), Department of Metrology (Switzerland), IJKWEZEN (Netherlands), O.I.M.L. (International),
Unmatched Quality:
  • Designed and built in a QS9000 certified quality system environment by American craftsmen.
  • Backed by an 18 month warranty.
Measurement Ranges:
  • Hydrocarbons (HC): 0-30,000 ppm
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO): 0-15%
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO1): 0-20%
  • Oxygen (O2): 0-25%
  • Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx): 0-5000 ppm
Physical Dimensions:
  • 11"W x 7"H x 3.5"D

Gas analysis can give you a troubleshooting shortcut
and build your profits.

A key to building satisfaction and service profits is using diagnostic time effectively, focusing on finding shortcuts to identify symptoms and malfunctions. OTC's MicroGas analyzer can make this possible. This tool can accurately and quickly determine the general health of an engine, just as a doctor determines general health with a blood test. Quite simply, emission levels that are too high or too low indicate defective or misadjusted vehicle systems. As a result, gas analysis can identify driveabilitiy problems (both engine performance and mechanical), determine engine efficiency, and detect emission problems.

In fact, OTC's MicroGas can diagnostic three major engine functions:
- Fuel delivery
- Ignition
- Mechanical problems

Fortunately, you don't need a Ph.D. in chemistry to understand how gas analyzers work, and why they can diagnose automotive problems and pollution. The OTC MicroGas provides accurate readings, enabling technicians to ensure that automobiles will meet exhaust emissions regulations.

A few of the time saving diagnostic shortcuts your
gas analyzer can provide:

Problem: Diagnosing a "no start" condition.
Shortcut: Look for 2,000 parts per million (ppm) or higher HC to verify that the engine is getting fuel.

Problem: Diagnosing mysterious fuel odors.
Shortcut: Use the probe of your 5-gas analyzer in various areas of the vehicle to identify the source (the HC ppm will go way up).

Problem: Diagnosing tough over-heating problems.
Shortcut: Remove the radiator cap; hold the 5-gas probe above the radiator opening. HC or CO readings indicate head gasket failure or a cracked head.

Problem: To diagnose low fuel pressure or volume.
Shortcut: Road test using your 5-gas analyzer under heavy acceleration or wide open throttle. If CO levels fall below 4% under heavy load, check for fuel restrictions or low fuel pressure.

Problem: To diagnose a bad 02 sensor.
Shortcut: Check for CO above .5% and 02 voltage below .5 volts. These symptoms are often caused by a defective oxygen sensor.
